The gut is one of the essential parts of our health. Ancient medicines dating back centuries have always pointed to food as one of the most crucial parts of health. You can take all the supplements in the world, but having a good foundation takes effort.

Here are ways to have to minimize leaky gut and strengthen your immune system:

1) Eat fiber from natural foods - especially plants
2) Minimize your stress levels
3) Make sure you spend the time exercising every week.
Something as simple as walking is already a good start.
4) Minimize environmental toxins
5) Focus on good quality sleep.
Your body has a circadian rhythm, and the gut can be disrupted by poor quality sleep.

If you're not familiar with the Clean 15, it's a list of fruits and vegetables with the least amount of pesticides. The Clean 15 is released every year by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) to help consumers make informed choices about which fruits and veggies to buy. This is not a hard and fast rule but more of a guide to make you more aware which fruits and vegetables make it more okay to opt for non organic. We dont always eat organic at home but we do our best depending on our budget and which fruit and vegetable we are buying.

Environmental Toxins are one of the root causes to disease and I do my best to minimize it in my household.

Hitting the reset button on my life. These past two months have been rough but I'm finally back. Things have changed in my life but my motivation and drive to make this world a better place by preventing and fighting disease hasn't.

Still learning and seeing patients on the backend here. I am holding one of my favorite fruits here PASSIONFRUIT.

Thank you everyone for the support, messages and texts during the past two months. It means a lot. I missed communicating with you all on social media. Now let's get back to more posting on integrative medicine and health!

The last several weeks have been very hard. My dad passed away on May 6. He was such a great dad. He lived until he was 85 years old. We all thought he had many years left. Unfortunately, he was taken away from us too soon.

My father, Dr. King Yee Yu was a family medicine physician practicing in southern California. He had his own private practice he built from scratch and was working until the day he had to be hospitalized. Unfortunately, he had complications from surgery for his heart. My father was still going to work and seeing patients up until the day of his surgery. He loved his job and didn't want to retire. He loved serving his community and his patients have expressed that they loved him also. He was a doctor for multiple generations of the same family, being a doctor for some families for over 30 years.

I didn't realize how much his patients loved him until I saw how devastated they were of the news of his passing as i was helping clean his office.

He was humble, generous, and a simple man. At his age, he was still able to drive 4 hours to Las Vegas from southern California. We all thought he had many more years left but God had other plans. I wouldn't be where I am without him and his generosity. I love you dad. Your memory will live on with me and my future endeavors.

Sarcoidosis is characterized by the formation of granulomas on various organs, but it is mostly seen in the lungs and intrathoracic lymph nodes. The cause of sarcoidosis is unknown, but it is thought that genetic and environmental factors contribute to the development of autoimmune disorders. Females are twice more likely to be diagnosed with sarcoidosis than men, and those who are middle-aged have a higher risk of this illness. The incidence of sarcoidosis varies between different ethnic groups. Incidence was the highest among African Americans (17-35 per 100,000 population), followed by Caucasians (5-12 per 100,000 population), and the lowest incidence was found among Asians and Hispanics (1-3 per 100,000 population).

Eggplants, white potatoes, bell peppers, red peppers, and tomatoes belong to the nightshade family. Nightshade vegetables contain a compound called solanine, which helps protect the plant. Some people may find that they are sensitive to these vegetables and may have more autoimmune disease activity. The evidence is very weak right now in regards to this. Most people can tolerate these vegetables without any problem.

If you think you have a problem with them, you can certainly try cutting them out and keeping a food diary to see if you truly are sensitive to them. Just because the scientific evidence is very weak right now doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist for some individuals. There will be more papers explaining why some patients have more flares with nightshades in due time.

I have seen in my own patients their own problems with nightshades, and I also have patients who are in remission eating them as well. It is important to keep these in your diet if you don't have any problems. Food expansion is better than food restriction if there is no problem with these plants. I, myself, like all of these vegetables and have no problems with them. Do you have a problem with nightshades? 🍆🥔🫑🍅🌶️
