What is NRF2?

The NRF2 pathway is important to fight oxidative stress and fight inflammation.

NRF2 inducing foods mainly come from plants! SURPRISE!
Reactive oxygen species(ROS) is constantly being generated in the body. Uncontrolled production of oxidants can lead to oxidative stress that impairs cellular function and contributes to chronic disease.

Oxidative stress can cause mitochondrial dysfunction, which can lead to a host of different problems, including autoimmune disease.

In general, the NRF2 pathway is important for anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidation purposes.

We're all exposed to environmental obesogens. But some of them, like BPA, could be hiding in the places you least expect.

An endocrine disruptor is a chemical that can interfere with the hormone system in humans and animals. Hormones are messengers that travel in the bloodstream to different parts of the body and send instructions to cells that tell them what to do. The Endocrine Society, as well as other organizations, have discussed the impact of endocrine disruptors on our bodies.

Endocrine disruptors come from plastics and other synthetic materials used to make things like food wraps, containers for beverages, and other consumer products. Endocrine disruptors can also come from different kinds of pesticides and herbicides.

Endocrine disruptors have been known to cause the following problems:

📌 Reproductive problems
📌 Neurologic problems
📌 Thyroid abnormalities
📌 Cancer
📌 Immune dysregulation

The list goes on and on. The best way to avoid this is to minimize exposure as a starting point. You can change everything, but you can make changes to your household one step at a time. We will be discussing this more in future posts.

How do we tell the difference between psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis:
👉 Pain, swelling, and stiffness mainly in MCP and PIPs of hands but can involve other joints as well.
👉 Symmetric joint involvement.
👉 Can have Rheumatoid Factor and CCP antibodies.
👉 Can have scleritis, which is inflammation of the sclera of the eye.

Psoriatic arthritis:
👉 Pain and swelling mainly in DIP and PIP of hands but there are variations to joint pattern.
👉 Typically, joint pain is asymmetric.
👉 Associated with Enthesitis.
👉 Psoriasis.
👉 Negative Rheumatoid Factor.

Hypothyroidism comes in many different forms. There are multiple symptoms that you can have from hypothyroidism, including the following:

👉 Fatigue
👉 Constipation
