I feel so much lighter and younger from changing my diet and eat more plant based. You would never expect to feel and look younger as you age but that is exactly how I feel. The before picture is me at the beginning of medical school, over a decade ago. I was very overweight and ate a lot of processed food. I don't wish to go back to my unhealthy lifestyle in the past.⁠

Going plant based was the best thing I did for my body. I am 30 pounds lighter than I was in 2009. I weigh less in my 30s compared to high school! In 2009 while I was traveling in the picture I had constant arthritis whereas I was pain free in 2019. ❗ My intention wasnt losing weight when i went more plant based but it just came along with the lifestyle changes.

An autoimmune disease has nutrition principles that are anti-inflammatory and that center around fiber and phytonutrients. Fiber and phytonutrients are key. There are going to be a lot of diets out there and you will get overwhelmed with all the information on the internet. However, keep your foundation clear and make sure you get plants in your system. Focus on nutrition as a whole.

There is no research that says eating a specific item for a specific autoimmune disease will put it into remission.⠀Remember, just because your friend was able to eat a specific food does not mean you will have the same reaction, as healthy as the food may be. Your gut may not be happy with the food or you may possibly flare.
⠀
We are all going to have our individual sensitivities on food so no one diet is going to fix everyone. Everyone's microbiome is different. There is no perfect diet that will encompass the population. But if you keep this principle in mind you will be on your way to a better health.

Let's talk about joint pain!!

When it comes to inflammatory arthritis, I'm looking for several things including swollen joints, morning stiffness or all day stiffness, pain that improves with movement and worsens with rest and/or pain that wakes a patient up at night.

Of course these are all variables and each situation depends on the person and their unique situation. Remember, arthritis attacks us in different ways and we all suffer differently. Most of us suffer in silence as we think no one around us understands.
